Seabiscuit Premier

GORDONSVILLE, VA - July 9, 2003 - The film is a story based on the best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand. Taking place during the Great Depression, it is the story of three men, a jockey (Tobey Maguire), a trainer (Chris Cooper), an entrepreneur (Jeff Bridges) and the unlikely racehorse that took them and the entire country on the ride of their life. The first showing exclusive premier screening of Seabiscuit will be held at the Seminole Cinema Theater and the donation is $50. The Post-Premier Screening Party will be held at OXO Restaurant and will benefit the Islet Replacement Research Foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The Seabiscuit Soiree will be the talk of the town with great food and festivity. Donations are $150 per person for the premier screening and party.

"We are thrilled to host the exclusive premier of Seabiscuit in Charlottesville, a city linked with horseracing," said Paul Manning of the Islet Replacement Research Foundation. "We hope to create a fun and memorable event for everyone."

The Islet Replacement Research Foundation is a voluntary nonprofit grant maker and supporter of diabetes research. Its goal is to bring together determined volunteers and dedicated scientists who support ambitious research projects to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, which mostly affects children. The Foundation raises funds through gifts from individual and corporate donors, special giving programs, events and grants. In 2002, the University of Virginia Health System established the Center for Cellular Transplantation, the first islet cell isolation facility in the Commonwealth. The first islet cell transplant will take place in the near future. In the short-term, the University's goal is to provide a treatment for diabetic patients by replacing non-functional islets with healthy ones. Their long-term research is dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes. PBM Products, Inc. of Gordonsville, Virginia, will match all donations to the Seabiscuit Premier.
